18 Is An Awkward Age

I turn 18 in a few weeks.

I’m excited about turning 18 and on the other hand I’m afraid.… Okay, maybe not afraid. I’m being melodramatic.

18 is an awkward age. It is a much anticipated age and at the same time a much dreaded age.

18 is that awkward age where you’re an adult but not officially one. Because you’re still a teen. You’re “legal” but not fully “legal

You can buy alcohol. You can drink. You can drive. You have freedom.
It’s fun, it’s exhilarating, it’s wonderful
18 is when “you’re no longer a child”

When you’re 18, you’re thought of as a “responsible adult”. No more excuses for your recklessness. You can’t hide behind. “I’m still a child”.

30 Days of Writing: 30 Things About Me

Hello people,

It’s been about a month since my last post. *covers face in shame*

So I have challenged myself to post something here every day for the next 30 days.

This challenge was supposed to start on the 27th of last month and end on the 27th of this month (MY BIRTHDAY!)

So I’m going to start with 30 things about me

1. My name is Oluwadeaduramilade Tawak. I love my name. It always starts conversations. I have discovered that someone stole my name and gave it to their son. I am still upset by this.

2. I’m going to be 18 on the 27th of this month! So I am excited on one hand and scared on the other. One of the posts for this challenge will talk about it.

3. I am a volunteer. I love volunteering. It makes me happy. I presently volunteer at Stand To End Rape.

4. I am going to be a psychologist.

5. I am smart. Not a genius. Continue reading

On Books, Tech and Exams (- Q2 2014)

Hallos peoples.

This is sort of a review of Q2 of 2014. But it’s mostly about all the things that have been happening since my last post.
It’s been what about 2 months since I posted anything here. I’ve been busy. School. Work. Trying to maintain (and improve) my relationship with God. Trying to stick to working out and eating healthy. Eating healthy is very very difficult.

I’ve been writing interesting blog posts based on interesting things from around the internet for Up Nepa! Social blog. Also I’m preparing for exams. Two major exams. My first semester results are out and I did well enough. I could probably do better. Continue reading

Giveaway Winners and Random Ramblings

The winners of the giveaway are
• Yewi – Anthills of The Savannah
• Ore – Miseducated

I can’t believe no one wanted Purple Hibiscus.

I’m gonna email you guys and sort out delivery and such.

If anyone wants any of the other books [except Purple Hibiscus. I’m keeping my book], send me an email or leave a comment.

For today’s random ramblings, I’m here to complain. Mostly.

Oh and by the way, I wrote for Uncle Efe’s 30 day thingy. It’s basically a review of your year.
My post comes up on the 7th.  Not posting anonymously was a huge decision.

Airtel wants to kill me. And they want to increase my expenses but my God is bigger than them.  I’m just going to get a Glo SIM and then ponder the meaning of life.
It was a year long relationship with Airtel. I thought we’d have a long and wonderful relationship like I have with Etisalat(5 years) but it was not meant to be.

Finally, unilag has told us to come for diploma things. Orientation is on the 9th or 10th.
Apartment/Hostel hunting shall begin again.

Job hunting is still happening and something has to happen fast. Ivy been looking for writing/online jobs but nothing is happening.

I think I’ve mentioned my book club before. We just finished Half of A Yellow Sun.
For this month, we’re reading Ghana Must Go by Taiye Selasi.

My review of Half of A Yellow Sun will be up soon. Speaking of reviews, check out my book blog

This is the forth day of Twitter deactivation. I still don’t know why I deactivated it. Sometimes I want to login but then I change my mind.
It’s a bit weird not having Twitter. My Echofon app is just there.

I have passed my goal of 150 books for 2013. I still have loads of books to review. Then there are the hundreds that have been on my phone for a long time.

Another Tuesday Random Rambling

Hey people,
Welcome to yet another Tuesday Random Rambling.

I was going through my previous posts, and I noticed I had a lot of posts saying something about how useless GEJ is.

Some of the posts seem like they were written by someone else. Not me. In a good way sha.

When I heard that Kate Middleton was in labour, I started to think about being pregnant and stuff.
Would you want to know the sex of the child. Or would you want to be surprised. I’m about 90% sure I wouldn’t want to find out the gender before giving birth.

Another thing I started to think about was family doctors/OB-GYN. I don’t think I’ll be comfortable with someone I know and see regularly or someone who is a family friend looking down there and I wouldn’t be able to tell the doctor when something really embarrassing is wrong.

I think it’s just weird. I mean. Someone I know. Imagine your father-in-law or someone like that being your OB-GYN. eeew. I’d rather die.

Oh and by the way, I have a new blog. It’s not exactly new. I opened it long before this one. I just never used it. It’s a book blog: We Blog About Books
It’s weblogaboutbooks(dot) blogspot(dot)com.

I wanted to use We Blog Books but it was already taken. 😦

I may not post anything for the next 2 weeks and I might actually be missing from the internet.

I’m not sure if I’ve talked about this before but about a week or 2 ago, I did my first real job as a makeup artiste. Even though it was for a friend’s photo shoot, it was a great and fun experience.

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
-Matthew 12:37

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
-Habakkuk 3:17-18
