Putting God First

There are two things that have been on my mind for a while now.
They are very short and simple

#1
A lot of times, when we face situations – good or bad – we don’t turn to God. At least not first. We’ll first bitch about our problems, or talk about our celebrations to people.

I’m very guilty of this. Whenever anything happens to me, the first 2 people that hear about it are Gbemisoke and Ibukun. Then God.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have people to confide in but God should be number one.

#2
A lot of us only turn/pray to God on two occasions. The first is when bad things happen. When nothing seems to be going right. That’s when you’ll see us. Going to church. Going to pastor. Going for vigils. Staying up all night to pray. The second is when good things are happening. We were promoted at work. We passed an exam etc etc. We will tell everybody about our testimony. Do thanksgiving ceremony. Tell our pastors. Tell everybody we can think of.

But what of the times in between bad and good times. When things aren’t hot or cold. When things are just lukewarm. We wouldn’t always be up and down. There’ll be plateaus. What do we do in our (spiritual) plateaus. We have to hold on to God every time.
Pray without ceasing. Pray in all seasons. Pray. Pray. Pray. Every time. Every season. Every day. Without stopping.

Grace and Peace

Light

John 1:1-5: ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that had been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Another version says: ‘… and the darkness has not understood it.’

My favourite version of this verse is KJV: ‘… and the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Most times, when we are going through problems and bad situations, we don’t look up to God. We just focus on how bad everything is going. We forget that we ‘have someone to call upon in times of trouble’.

The word of the Lord is binding. it comes to pass. It is strong. We have to trust in God’s words and promises to us. Live in faith.

The writer of Hebrews says in chapter 11 that ‘faith is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see’.

What you do not and cannot see should not blind you to God’s promises in your life.

The Message version of the bible puts John 1:1-5 as the Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. everything was created through Him; nothing – not one thing – came into being without Him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness coud not put it out.

John 1;14 says: ‘… and the Word became Flesh’.

Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus was with God in the beginning of the world. He was there when everything was created and nothing was created that He did not know about. He knows YOU. He knows of existence. He knows your problems. He knows the challenges and difficulties you’re going through.

You have to trust in Him. In His omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience,

Speak the word of God into your life. Use the Word as a prayer. There is power in the Word of God.

Psalm 138:2 says ‘… for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name’. God has made His words to us even greater than the power of His name..

In John chapter 1, it says: in Him was life and that life was the light of mankind.

The light

Jesus is the Light. To show you the way. To lead you.

Don’t run around blindly when you have God.

Let God light up your life. Shine for God.

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it. the darkness cannot understand it. It cannot comprehend the light. The light(Jesus) has overcome darkness(sin).

You can’t do anything. God can do everything. Jesus said to His disciples: ‘I am the vine, you are the branches, …, apart from me you can do nothing’

When Jesus died for our sins, he brought light into our lives. Darkness cannot overrule light. When there is light, there is no darkness. Light spreads into every corner of your life when God is involved.

basically, we have to understand that we have the word of God in us, with us and it is there to work for us. If we choose to use it. Psalm 50:15 says; ‘call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me’

God is ever ready to listen to you. He hears you when you call.

So trust in His promises

Week 6: 100 Questions

This has been the most unproductive week of my life. I’ve done absolutely nothing of effect in/to my life.

Apart from house chores, I don’t think I did anything else.

My life is much of a mess right now. I don’t know what direction anything is going but it’s cool. God has been there, He’s still there.
