On Anorexic Children(?) And Goodreads Trolls

Hey guys.

So today I’m going to be talking about bullying on goodreads and something that happened this weekend.

So I found a post on goodreads about an article on Salon.com

According to “supporters”, Lauren Howard  asked -when her book hasn’t been released yet – why people were giving 1 and 2 star reviews? Some people responded by giving more low reviews (just to prove that they can do whatever they please), and then started shelving her book as “authors who should be sodomized” and “should be raped in prison”. She decided that that was too much and is no longer releasing the book.

I’ve noticed something like this once. I remember when I wanted to read reviews for the 4th & 5th books in the Secret Circle. It took a while to find an actual review. All I could find was people bashing the author.
Long story short, LJ Smith wrote the series as a trilogy but the publishers wanted more and she said no so they gave it to a ghost writer to write 3 more books.

According to STGRB(Stop The Goodreads Bullies), these people don’t stop at online threats. They find out their home numbers and email addresses to call and send them threats.

STGRB has compiled a list of the worst of the worst

There are petitions at Change.org for Amazon and Goodreads to stop letting abuse and bullying continue under the guise of freedom of speech and that Goodreads’ should not allow comments that are abusive in nature if you’re interested.

This is part one of three. You can read the full post at http://weblogaboutbooks.blogspot.com/2013/08/bullying-on-goodreads-stop-bullies.html

The Other Thing Is
This weekend, I went to my uncle’s house to visit. He has a 5 year old daughter who refuses to eat so I was talking time her and trying to convince her to eat. She told me that she doesn’t eat because she’s doesn’t want to get fat.

I was like WHAT????

You are 5 years old. 5. What the fuck are you talking about. Since when are five year old bothered about getting fat.

The funny thing about all this is that her mum is really slim. Always has been. When she was pregnant with her 3rd child, I wasn’t even sure. Her dad is also very slim. I was and still am stunned.

In what world is it okay for a five year old to starve herself all because she has seen mean things done to people who are “bigger than usual”
It’s not right and it annoys me. She thinks she’ll become a joke or a freak or she’ll be seen as abnormal.
If you see this child that I’m talking about. You can’t get skinnier than that. It’s not even possible.

We have a problem. A huge problem to solve.

She’s actually scared -horrified even- at the thought of getting fat.

It’s not a disease. It doesn’t make you less of a human being. You’re not worthless or unimportant.

I should stop now.

Anyways, that’s all for now

Otherwise I will strip her naked and make her as bare as on the day she was born;
I will make her like a desert, turn her into a parched land, and slay her with thirst.
– Hosea 2:3

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
– Philippians 4:6-7

Grace and Peace
